Wasted Times Noord

Amsterdam 2017

A project of Cities Foundation

WASTED dreams big. One of its goals is to be an engine of both material and social design, where the social benefits of local neighborhood activation coincide with and enforce the aim of setting new sustainable standards for product design. To achieve this goal, WASTED hosts design and co-creation workshops for the neighborhood, where local waste is reprocessed into new sustainable materials and products for the community.

WASTED is a local-solution initiative, realized through a community Laboratory for small-scale waste reprocessing.

Wasted Laboratory hosts design and co-creation workshops for the neighborhood, where local waste is reprocessed into new sustainable material and products for the community. WASTED is made possible by working with local community and businesses to collect and reprocess plastic, while also collaborating with designers to co-create new materials. In WASTED TIMES NOORD, most of the attention is focused on an experimental process of material sourcing and product development, where the final consumers become the protagonists of the production process.

The designers innovate in product development by carefully tailoring the artifact to the needs and material quality proposed by the local community. This artistic and social experiment represents the innovative quality of the project with the final and simple goal of co-creating, showing that a different relationship among design, consumers and producers is possible.
